9 weeks Tuesdays January 17- March 14, 2023 6-8 pm As we emerge from a not quite over pandemic, a time in which for many of us touch, proximity and movement were all limited or reshaped, coming into community practice of embodied relational listening skills is more relevant than ever. Contact Improvisation is a dance/art/movement form likened to a moving meditation. Like other contemplative movement forms, deep inner listening, building foundations for support and ease, finding play within, and following your truth are fundamental components. Yet unlike many others, this form brings in the relational components of listening to another and building a deep capacity to communicate and respond. Particularly within our current political/social context, the skills of listening to self and another are of utmost importance. As we navigate new layers of boundaries of safety and consent, being in embodied practice of hearing our bodies yes's, no's and maybe's is vital work. And, as we move through a collectively traumatic moment, in which our nervous systems have been shaped by proximity and touch equaling danger, finding safe enough spaces to relearn safe touch and proximity and to find play together is necessary for us to metabolize this collective experience. Contact Improvisation provides a physical format to practice embodied skills of communication and listening, while providing a safe and consensual way to invite new patterns, release tension, and find your playful wild self. In this workshop we will: Learn skills of Body Listening and Communication Investigate Consensual Touch and Personal Boundaries of Safety Explore Sharing Weight and Relating to Gravity Use Somatic Tools to Ground and Center Connect with Anatomy to Inhabit our Three-Dimensionality Click here to learn more about contact improv. What are past students saying..... "Contact Improvisation is a wonderful way to open one's body and mind into new and unexpected ways of being, feeling and moving.
