Contact Improv is a practice of possibility.  It's a movement form that explores many dimensions of relationship, physical and beyond, to our selves as bodies, each other and the world.  It is a curiosity practice.  An embodied research of change through movement.
When we change our patterns, we change our worlds.

Contact Improvisation provides a physical format to practice embodied skills of communication and listening, while providing a safe and consensual way to invite new patterns, release tension, and find your playful wild self.

Contact Improvisation (CI) is a dance/art/movement form likened to a moving meditation.  Like many other contemplative movement forms, deep inner listening, building foundations for support and ease, and following your YES! are fundamental components. Yet unlike many others, this form brings in the relational components of listening to another, finding play, following pleasure/joy, and building capacity to communicate and respond.

As we move through collectively traumatic moments, in which our nervous systems are shaped by the continuing onslaught of witnessing genocide, climate change disasters, ongoing violence specifically targeting queer, trans, and BIPOC bodies, finding safe enough spaces to practice possibility, releasing, moving and finding play/joy together is necessary for us to metabolize these collective experiences.

Trauma Informed.  Liberation Oriented.
Let's move together!

In this class we will:
  • Learn and Practice skills of Embodied Listening and Communication
  • Expand POSSIBILITIES of our movement, our selves and what's possible with others
  • PLAY!!!
  • Investigate Non-Sexual Consensual Touch and Personal Boundaries of Safety with the context of Dance.  Let's re-pattern y'all!
  • Explore Embodied Concepts such as Release, Tone/Tonal Modulation, Inhabiting Back Space, Intuitive Movement and more.
  • Grow CI skills such as Sharing Weight, Rolling Point of Contact, Structurally Supported Movement, Inhabiting Spirals, Falling, Lifting/Lofting, Following Momentum
  • Use Somatic Tools to Regulate your Nervous System
  • Explore Collaborative Flow States
  • Practice Supportive Community
  • Acknowledge Identity and how it moves within and between us.
