Contact Improvisation provides a physical format to practice embodied skills of communication and listening, while providing a safe and consensual way to invite new patterns, release tension, and find your playful wild self.
Contact Improvisation (CI) is a dance/art/movement form likened to a moving meditation. Like many other contemplative movement forms, deep inner listening, building foundations for support and ease, and following your YES! are fundamental components. Yet unlike many others, this form brings in the relational components of listening to another, finding play, following pleasure/joy, and building capacity to communicate and respond.
Particularly within our current political/social context, the skills of listening to self and another are of utmost importance.
And, as we move through collectively traumatic moments, in which our nervous systems are shaped by the continuing onslaught of witnessing genocide, climate change disasters, ongoing violence specifically targeting queer, trans, and BIPOC bodies, finding safe enough spaces to practice releasing, moving and finding play/joy together is necessary for us to metabolize these collective experiences.

- Expand possibilities of Movement, individually and with others
- PLAY!!!
- Investigate Consensual Touch and Personal Boundaries of Safety with the context of Dance
- Explore Embodied Concepts such as Release, Tone/Tonal Modulation, Inhabiting Back Space, Intuitive Movement and more.
- Grow CI skills such as Sharing Weight, Rolling Point of Contact, Structurally Supported Movement, Inhabiting Spirals, Falling, Lifting/Lofting, Following Momentum
- Use Somatic Tools to Regulate your Nervous System
- Explore Collaborative Flow States
- Practice Supportive Community
- Acknowledge Identity and how it moves within and between us.

Beginning Contact: Embodied Listening through Contact Improvisation with Amanda Franz 9 weeks Thursdays 6:30-8:30 pm September 19th - November 21st, 2024 (No class October 17th) Beginners Class. Engaging for all levels of experience. (Yay for folks repeating the class!) Full (or nearly full) attendance is requested, as the material builds on itself. Max number of students- 12* Covid Policies will be informed and responsive to current community context and may change as needed. Current Policy for this Course: N-95 masking or antigen testing immediately before each class required. ** Course Cost: $275 for the 9 weeks/18hrs Financial Accessibility Options: 3 spots are available at $225 2 spots are available at $135 Please inquire before registering to receive accessibility options.
