Mutual Aid Shake

Picture
facilitated by Alexia Buono
supported by Amanda Franz

Thursday July 20th, 7-8pm
Thursday August 3rd, 7-8pm

A collective Shake to help organizers, volunteers, & residents of the 2023 flooding move some of what we've been holding together, to help us keep going.

Shaking is a durational practice that helps relieve our bodily selves from staying stuck in trauma responses. It is one of many modalities of body-centered responses that Resmaa Menakem cites, including “collective humming, rocking, rhythmic clapping, drumming, singing, grounding touch, wailing circles, and call and response.”

The Shake is one hour inside the full ecology of flood relief efforts where you can let go of "go" mode once you finish your on the ground flood relief work for the day, to literally come shake your body to a playlist of blasting music with a group.

The invitation is to come together to shake, move, be gentle, or rest in a corner without needing to speak.
This will be a queer, trans affirming space, facilitated by a member of the
Releaf Collective, Alexia Buono.

The Shake is Free, or donate what you can/want (money, supplies, etc) all of which will be distributed to flood relief efforts and organizers the next day.
There will be some herbs and tinctures available for you to take home with you.

Accessibility Notes:

There are two flights of stairs to access the studio.
There is an air filter in the space.
We are not requiring that you mask or test for COVID prior to attending the shake, and do support those who want to and will mask at the event.
Bring water to hydrate.

The facilitator, Alexia Buono will hold a brief opening circle where she will give a brief explanation of the Shake, what to expect, and how you will be supported in the space as an individual and as a collective.
This will predominantly be an hour of being non-verbal, though there will be opportunities to be held verbally if the need arises for individuals by Amanda Franz.
The lobby of The Everything Space will be set up as a receiving center for money, items, & supplies that will be distributed to flood relief organizers the next day.
